New
Children’s Learning Center Dedicated
The day had been anticipated for a long time…The ribbon
cutting and dedication of the Brenda Hall Abney Children's
Learning Center. On Friday, February 15th, children, friends
and staff gathered to see the new facility for the first time
and celebrate the realization of a dream.

Children's
Home President, Dr. Perry Hancock recognized the family of
Brenda Hall Abney, a former resident whom the center was named
after. Brenda went on to be with her Lord in 2005. On hand
for the dedication were her husband Pat and daughters Erin,
Beth and Anna
.Darrell Washam, Children's Home Director of Development and
Public Relations, recognized several donors to the project
on hand. Washam recognized Jonathan Martin of Roy O. Martin
Lumber Company who was instrumental in raising funds for the
building through a golf tournament that has become a much
anticipated event each fall.
Washam also expressed thanks on behalf of the Home to the
overwhelming 391 donors who contributed to the project. "Each
and every person who is a blessing to our children and our
ministry," He stated. "You made it happen."
Following a dedicatory prayer by Children's Home trustee Reverend
Kurt Auger, and the cutting of the ribbon by Pat Abney, guests
where invited into the center to tour and enjoy refreshments.

Upon entering the building, eyes are drawn to a beautiful
portrait of Brenda Hall Abney painted by former Children's
Home resident and trustee, Mrs. Della Pigott. A donor tree
also adorns the entryway. The tree is created from copper
and platinum leaves engraved with the names of donors who
contributed $250 or more to the construction of the learning
center.
Inside the main room which is a multimedia room, the focal
point is a reading gazebo surrounded by bookshelves and library
tables. On both sides of the multimedia room, age appropriate
tutoring rooms and a computer lab are found. Tutors will be
able to work with the children in an environment geared to
their age.
The Learning Center is certainly a dream come true. The facility
will help the boys and girls in our care reach their learning
potential.
Thanks to each and every one who helped with this adventure.
Your support will make a difference in the lives of children
for years to come.
