The Collier family

Ken and Ginger, Northeast Louisiana

How many years have you served as a foster parent, and to how many children?

We have been foster parents for 6 years. The first two years were in our home. The last four years have been here at LBCH. We have opened our home to 32 children over this 6 years.

Why did you become a foster parent?

Ken and I have always been open to God's leadership in our lives. From being a minister, a missionary, and now foster parents, God has led us on a very exciting adventure. Ken was the Associate Pastor at Eastwood Baptist Church. Our church was beginning an Orphan/Foster Care Ministry. To lead the way, Ken and I attended Map classes, thinking we would do respite care, emergency care, or encourage ministry to other foster parents. Before we finished being licensed as foster parents, Beth Green asked us to pray about and consider being a specialized home for human trafficked children. This was a new ministry with LBCH. Thus, we began our journey as foster parents. (To be truthful, when I married Ken, he wanted to be a cottage parent at the Tennessee Children's Home. I didn't want to do it, but as our oldest daughter and son-in-law began the process of foster to adopt, God molded my heart to have a love for children from hard places.) We did actually have human trafficked children in our home. From there, God called us to LBCH. We began here on April 1st, 2014. Yes, God does have a sense of humor. We have been blessed and continue to be blessed by God as we serve in this ministry.

Describe your family dynamic.

We are loving and caring and we like to have a good time. We love going to church and seeing all of our children involved in their activities at church. We are also active in their schools. We want our children to have as normal a kid's life as is possible.

What is your favorite activity to do as a family?

We really enjoy doing family activities together. We also enjoy one on one time with each child. We like to play games and play outside. We love to take them to special events and places: bowling, trampoline jump places, water parks, go carts, amusement parks&hellip&hellip&hellip.

What has God taught you as a foster parent?

He is in control and He will give us all we need to be what these children need us to be. Yes, it is hard, but He blesses us more than we can imagine. He brings these children to us, His children, so that we can love them and care for them as He does. We plant the seed, and He brings the seed to fruition. We may always see the results, but when God allows we are so blessed by Him to see some of our children come to faith in Jesus, as Jesus followers. He has taught us to trust and obey.
