Our Foster Care and Adoption Specialists

 

Kerri Byrd.jpgKerri Byrd, LCSW

Director of Foster Care and Adoption Ministries

Kerri joined the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home & Family Ministries' staff in January 2018 as the Foster Care and Adoption Specialist for Shreveport Region. In December 2019, Kerri transitioned into the position of Director of Foster Care and Adoption Ministries, overseeing the Connect 1:27 ministry statewide. Prior to joining LBCH, Kerri worked for the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services for 8½ years. She served as a foster care case manager, adoption specialist, and a Wendy's Wonderful Kids Adoption Recruiter for Shreveport and Monroe regions. Kerri received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and earned her Master of Social Work degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.

Kerri is passionate about creating awareness for foster care-related issues, and providing education to the faith-based community to equip them for action. Kerri enjoys forming partnerships with local churches and uniting efforts to meet the needs of children in foster care.

Melody Karamanis.jpgMelody Karamanis, LCSW, BACS

Assistant Director of Child and Family Services

Melody joined the Louisiana Baptist Children&rsquos Home & Family Ministries in July 2008 as the Family Services Worker on LBCH campus in Monroe. Melody became Assistant Director of the Child and Family Services Department in 2019. Melody also works as the Foster Care and Adoption Specialist for the Monroe area to promote and expand foster care in the Northeast Louisiana area. Melody received a Bachelor of Social Work degree from University of Louisiana at Monroe (NLU at the time), and she earned a Master&rsquos Degree in Social Work from the Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Melody is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Board Approved Clinical Supervisor (LCSW BACS).

Christy GoodwinChristy Goodwin, LCSW

Foster Care and Adoption Specialist

Christy joined the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home & Family Ministries' staff in May 2019 as a Foster Care and Adoption Specialist for the Shreveport region. Christy received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Louisiana Tech University and a Master of Social Work from Stephen F. Austin State University. A native to Shreveport, Christy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with experience in medical social work, school social work and private adoption. She and her family also had the opportunity to serve as foster parents in Orleans Parish in 2017-18 while her husband attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Christy is passionate about individuals, families, churches and organizations working together to respond to the current foster care crisis. When asked about her favorite part of her job, Christy said, "When a gospel-centered person or family answers the call to foster, I love seeing their friends, families and church members wrap around them with practical support and prayer. With Connect 1:27, no one fosters alone."

Kelli Roberts

Kelli Roberts, LMSW

Foster Care and Adoption Specialist

Kelli joined the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home & Family Ministries' staff in November 2018 as the Foster Care and Adoption Specialist for the Alexandria area. Prior to joining LBCHFM, Kelli worked for the Wraparound Agency in Alexandria and most recently as a hospice social worker. Kelli has been heavily involved in Women's Ministry. She enjoys participating in youth activities at her church as well as leading a small group with her husband. Kelli received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from Northwestern State University. She earned her Master of Social Work degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Kelli has been practicing Social Work for over 10 years.

Kelli is excited to build mutually beneficial relationships with churches in her area to strengthen the existing network of support for foster families, as well as to help those interested in becoming foster parents. Kelli is passionate about helping to facilitate nurturing homes and environments for children. Kelli wants to develop and promote quality foster homes in Central Louisiana, because she believes that children in foster care deserve the chance to succeed in Christ-centered, loving homes.
