Resident from 1983 - 1986
While living at LBCH, I was given an excellent opportunity for an excellent education. I received academic recognition at River Oaks School, a private high school, and at LBCH. The high school was good college prep training. The Home provided daily chores that were good for discipline.
Soon after I entered the Home, I found myself seated across from Mr. Powell's desk with him pointing his finger at me and saying, "One more time and you'll have to leave," regarding a sneaking out of a cottage episode. Mr. Powell told me he'd support me this time, but no other.
Well, I quickly adjusted myself to Home life, followed all the rules, studied hard, and at my final awards banquet, I was greatly honored to be presented with the Superintendent's Award. My life would not be as enriched had God not provided for me through our Children's Home.
