I wouldn't take anything for my time here at the children's home. I don't know what it would have been like if I didn't come in but I'm sure it's made all the difference in my life.
I tell people that I left here 53 years ago and this is still home. Whether is was physical, emotional, or spiritual, those needs were going to be taken care of.
In my job I had the opportunity to visit throughout the state with friends of Louisiana Baptist Children's Home who have made it possible to offer all these things to our children.
In 125 years, the Children's Home has changed from being a one-trick pony to multiple kinds of ministry. It has grown and evolved and become an instrument of reconciliation for people all over the state.
I was really close with my cottage parents, Tom and Reba Oneal who became parent figures. Tom as actually one of the men who walked me down the aisle here at the chapel.
Being able to work here later helped me in a way to give back and express through that working an appreciation of what I had received.
She was right. Soon after that I did make lots of friends and I wasn't lonely and I was very happy. That was very meaningful to me.
